My Dad had one off those back in the 70's called a Flymow here. If you 
needed to mow a slope you could tie a rope to the handle and stand at the 
top of the slope and swing it. At least that what it said on the brochure.

Some lawn mower company (Sunbeam ?) over here in the former colony of
America made hovercarft push mowers for a while.  They worked quite well
except that they could not be operated on the side of a hill, even a slight
slope.;  They had a tendency to drift down hill as there were no wheels to
guide them.
