Barry,
Over here Kitty Litter and "Oil Dry" are made from a clay called
"Bentonite". There used to be (may still be) a Bentonite mine near
Louisville Mississippi and the black laborers who worked there called it "de
dirt factory". About 5% powdered Bentonite is mixed with sand to make
molding sand for foundry use and it is also used in oil well drilling among
other things.
Fuller's Earth is I believe composed of zillions of tiny silicon skeletons
of Diatoms and is also called Diatomaceous Earth. Great for filtering oil
when re-refining it and also a great insecticide if you get fleas etc in
your carpets. (It gets into the joints of the insects exoskeletons) Only
one problem, the stuff is highly abrasive and will destroy a vacuum cleaner
in only a few minutes unless it is a wet or dry shop vac where the material
does not pass through the motor. It will go through the filter bag of
canister, and other vacuums and into the motor bearings and commutator.

I believe that cat litter is made from fullers earth, could be wrong
tho................
Cheers
Barry
