[modeleng] Re: disused Underground photos

Yep Al - with another similar programme on Satellite last night - with a
chap taking a an ex-working boat from Birmingham, where it has been
re-built, down the Grand Union Canal to London and on to the Thames.

You should have seen the 90 foot beam engine at one of the pumping stations
though, Still the world's biggest (and it isn't even American !!! <VBG>)
where the water that had come down the canal (through operation of the 185
locks on the nearly 140 mile journey used to be then pumped into the local
domestic water supply, rather than being wasted by effectively being dumped
in the Thames, in the 19th century. AND it was steam powered, with the coal
being brought down from the coal fields in the Midlands on the same canal!

Tony.
