Ken,
A clubmate tried these devices a while ago. There were two drawbacks.
Firstly they were not 100% reliable and secondly it was not possible to
leave the the draincocks open when raising steam or when storing the engine
after injecting oil in the cylinders.
He reverted back to the conventional arrangement fairly rapidly.
