All worm drives are relatively inefficient, and as Jesse says the low 
ratio ones are more so. There are good mathematical reasons for this...but 
I can't remember any details.
I seem to remember doing some of this when at college, but  I took 
Ordinary National Certificate Applied Mechanics 5 times, and failed it 5 
times. That was 40 years ago now, so I've every excuse for not remembering 
it.  I never did see the point of it all for a radio 
engineer......workshop practice was much more to the point!
