[modeleng] Re: are ye all trying to tell me something...

I was once talking to somebody who used two C5 motors in a robot that they=

were making for Robot Wars=2E He said that he knew they were grossly
underated, and this was in the early days of Robot Wars and control was
bang! bang! on each motor, either OFF, Full Speed Forward or Full Speed
Reverse=2E

So, nothing strange so far, apart from the power source was 6 x 12v lead
acid batteries, not wired in parallel but in series!!!!

These motors were taking 72v each!! At the end of the session, the motors=

were mildly warm and the batteries wrecked!

So a C5 in a 7=2E25" shouldn't give you a problem=2E  In fact, as I am sur=
e you
will find out soon enough, the problem is not getting enough power to the
wheels, but in fact transmitting that power to the rail!

Cheers

Peter

 Hi, If you have any doubts about the C5 Motor, as I had when building my
7=2E25 Gauge diesal outline, I got in touch with Parkside Railways, They
advertise in The ME and they were extremely helpful in suggesting a variet=
y
of things=2E They have a very big range of 12 Volt and 24 Volt DC Motors p=
lus
all the control Modules=2E Hope this may be of some help to you=2E Brian
Howorth the owner is very helpful and knows this side of things inside out=
,
he also a very good Engineer/Model Engineer=2E
 Best wishes

  I wonder if a C5 motor will be powerful enough for the task=2E
Someone here has some experience of them and may comment=2E
I suspect that you may be surprised at the power required to run a 3" scal=
e=20
traction engine=2E At least, to run it in a comparable way to steam powere=
d=20
engines=2E
Of course, far less power wouldbe required if you only want to drive on
firm=20
surfaces=2E

We don't use soap anymore it's now handwash=2E

  Whats wrong with electric=3F I am considering building a engine in the=20=

region of 3" scale=2E It will have all the bells and whistles of a steam=20=

traction engine but not steam=2E I plan to drive the crank and hence=20
everything else with a 12v motor from a Sinclair C5=2E=20
