[modeleng] Worn bushes

My gauge O meths-fired 4-4-0 has worn the bronze bushes in both big ends
to cause enough slop to cause the connected wheels to sometimes not make
the full revolution and wind up with the connecting rods cocked up at a
30 degree angle, with the cranks pointing off in different directions.
Not pretty! It's a semi-scale model with a loco-style boiler, heading
towards the Eddie Cooke end of O gauge/scale live steam, but not of his
caliber.
Short of replacing the bushes, how might I be able to lessen the slop
where the crank pins pass through the bushes? One thought I had was to
"tin" the crank with soft solder where it passes through the big end.=20
The amount of slop isn't much, a few tenths of a mil. Does anyone have
any experience with doing this? How can I get an even layer of solder
on the pin? Should I try tinning the inside of the bush?
Not sure if any of this makes sense,
Thanks for input,
Bede in stormy Brooklyn.
