[modeleng] Workshop - not the worst jobs

We have had lots of comments recently about the worst jobs how about turning
it around for the things that have gone well.

The one thing personally I have avoided is parting off due to all the scare
stories I have heard but last weekend I found that the 1/2" slices of 2 1/2"
mild steel I had arranged for were 1" After facing 2 down to 1/2" and
filling a bag with swarf I decided I would bite the bullet and try parting
the next one.

Don't laugh but I have got the new rear Dickinson type tool post for my
Super7 gathering dust in which I fitted an 1.5mm Iscar parting off bit and
it went though the steel like a knife though butter. 300 rpm and hand fed I
parted the remaining 6 in less time than I did the first 1. Also learnt not
to feed in too fast when the bit dug in, chuck stopped and the belts started
to slip but after digging the insert out and refitting it off it went again.
Why was I so worried about parting off or was it beginners luck?

Fully recommend Jenny at J&C Tools and all her bits and pieces.

I know it is not rocket science but we all have to start somewhere and it is
1 thing I will not worry about again
