[modeleng] Re: What will happen to your equipment?

What originally prompted my thoughts on this matter was an event that
happened to me a couple of years ago.
I answered an advert for some ME books. The advertiser was the neighbour of
a widow of a model engineer who, I gathered was not a member of any club.
The widow had sold his models, (from a sketchy description some (5 I
believe) IC engines which sounded like Edgar Westbury designs.
The buyer had told her they were scrap and managed to buy them for £10 the
lot.
After much discussion and meeting her, I persuaded them to contact the
police and subsequently spoke to the officer concerned.
Apparently the buyer was later charged, although I have no details. More
importantly, some of the models were recovered. (I must add that he wasnt
one of the known ME traders.)

I would hate to hear of this sort of thing happening again, although I am
sure it must do.

The models and machinery are easy to value, but what about that small tin
which contains a couple of injectors and a few valves all ready for the next
engine? We know that it may be around £100 worth in there but would our
families know that?

Food for thought.

Oh, I did buy the books at the price asked, which was fair and reasonable.

Alan,

Hmmmm................interesting question.

I currently take the view that, when I'm gone, my models and equipment will
become the property of my descendents as specified in my will and it will be
up to them what they do with them. It wont bother me because I wont be
around.
However I also take the view that I ain't planning on departing this world
in the near future. Maybe if the grim reaper makes an appointment for the
not too distant future I might start to specify the fate of one or two
particular treasures but most of them are too damned heavy and cumbersome
for a "normal" person to cope with.
