[modeleng] Re: What was it for?

No

It's a bit simpler than that. It is typical of gauges used on domestic combi
boilers on sealed systems. Max pressure when the safety valve will open 3
bar hence the red line. System pressures vary from 0.5 to 1.5 bar, that one
on the upper end I would guess. Flexcom make a lot of sealed system
components for the domestic heating market.

Alan,

There was something similar to this in the "What's it for" section of ME
some years ago. IIRC, it's something to do with hot water systems in large
premises - schools, hospitals or something like that. The pressure would be
the head from the storage tank and the temperature would be erm well the
temperature.

Yesterday I was given a gauge.

3" diameter, it has two dials, the top one, covering around 250 degrees, is
marked, O C to 150 C.
The lower one is marked 0 bar to 4 bar.

On the pressure gauge there is a red marker at the one bar mark, which is
where the moving pointer is, a red line at the 3 bar mark, and a green
sector covering the pressures between 1 and 3 bar.

A picture of it is at, http://www.alanstepney.info/gauge.jpg

Anyone any idea what it might be off?

A second question is, what should I do with it? (Polite suggestions only
please!)
To allow reasonable leeway, it could only be fitted to a boiler running at,
say, 25 - 30 psi, which isnt much use for most models.

Right now I plan to add it to the "things that might come in handy one day"
box.
