[modeleng] Re: Western Region valve gear

Gary,

The first thing to do is make sure the valve opens the same amount for =
both
end of the cylinder so to speak. We next put the reversing gear in full
forward and set the piston for the valve being set to top dead centre. =
The
appropriate eccentric is then moved [forward when setting to run =
forwards
and vice versa when setting to run backwards] so that that valve just =
cracks
open to admit steam.=20

The whole thing can hen be checked to see if things will be equal when
running backwards......this can be a bit of a compromise depending on =
how
well the valve gear has been made. Most people want to run forwards =
most of
the time so the settings should be set to favour this.

Ride!"=20
