[modeleng] Various topics to get you all going!

The Lackham Museum and Woodland Railway now exists. It has approximately 100
yards of track, a tunnel/workshop, platforms and a station building. Our first
running day was 15th July where between them Stumpy and Mouland gave 76 rides.
Stumpy continues to behave impeccably. There will be pictures on the website
in due course. Many many thanks to Robert (my son), Graham and Fred, without
whom I'd never have got it complete on time.

Topsy (aka Son of Stumpy) is progressing, this is approximately 4' long is a B1
arrangement (work that one out!) has a 2.5kW electric motor, two large
batteries and a small petrol generator on board. Having seen the unreliability
of modern electronic controllers, I am currently leaning towards a three stage
controller - OFF, 12v & 24v. Braking is pnuematic. Now Lackham is running and
after I have built Mouland's passenger cars and a new passenger truck for
Stumpy, I'll get back to Topsy. Now after Topsy....

As I'm sure that you've noticed I like em big! (I've got a Tinkerbelle on the
go to replace Mouland when the going gets a bit tougher), but I also like my
infernal combustion engines. I may have the option of a VW flat 4 (from a VW
Transporter). I am considering building a bogie locomotive with the engine
driving (through a gearbox) to one bogie. How easy is it to make Cardan shafts
in 7.25" narrow gauge? Any thoughts? Should I go for the VW gearbox/clutch as
well?

Food for thought.

Cheers

Peter
