[modeleng] Vanes Boiler Works

Evn'n All

Today, I took delivery of a bit of steam ephemera.
I found an original "catalog" ,it is more of a black and white leaflet
(16 pages), of the "John Vanes Boiler Works",the manufacturers of the
"Vanes Vertical Single Flue Boiler". This company was situated in
Brazil, Indiana.

It does not contain all that much technical info, though it gives HP in
relation to boiler size and a drawing of the inside of the boiler.
The smallest one of these (full size) boilers, could be made out of a
shell reclaimed from an industrials size gas bottle.
(the kind, that is about 3 to 4 of the usual butane/propane containers
we are used to)

To give but one example: The 4 HP boiler has an outside diameter 24" (61
cm) and a height of 4' (122 cm)
I have not measured the type of gas cylinder I have in mind, but it will
not be far of the above measurements.
These things would make a nice Workshop boiler, that is "simple" to
construct. It would even power the smaller full size steam engine.(There
is also a 2 HP one that is 18" by 3,5 ' or a 6 HP, that is 30" by 5')

So if any body wants to know more about these boilers, or thinks they
need a copy of the booklet, please mail me off-list to let me know your
details.
