Lee,
Very interesting and the only example I have ever seen of a Scotch Yoke
being used on a locomotive piston. The valve is of course underneath the
cylinder and appears to be operated by a thin vertical lever attached to the
main rod. Unfortunately everything is hidden by the saddle tank. Could
have been something similar to Joy valve gear, but I ain't sticking my neck
out to claim it is!

Hi All
Can anybody provide me with the name or information on the unusual valve
gear on this neat little Loco engine built in the UK by R & W Hawthorn in
1880 evidently it was based on a steam tram engine. I would like to find a
bit more about how the valve gear worked would it have been similar to a
beam engine

I found this engine on Colin Usher's web site Ken Swan is building a 7-1/4
gage version of it but the page hasn't been updated for a few months.
