Hi All,

When I was working I came across more and more of these professionally 
qualified persons who hadn't a single bit of practical experiance.
I did have at one time a fully qualified guy with a degree, who did not know 
which way to tighten a nut.

They go straight from school and then to college and finished up as so 
called design engineers doing it all on computers never having once got 
their hands dirty.
I did ask the question once at a professional institution meeting of what 
happens when one of these wonder boy's designs gets to site and was totally 
impossible to install or build.

The reply from the President was that it was the Site Engineers problem.

All you have to do is look around and see the typical cock ups that are 
happening in the real World. The Millenium Bridge that swayed as the 
designer did not know the basic principles of harmonic motion. The cut and 
cover tunnel at Hatfield that collapsed when they started filling the earth 
up the sides because the designer did not know the difference between 
ordinary cement and re-inforced concrete. The arch to hold the roof over the 
Wembley Stadium that was unsafe and had to be redesigned.

The worrying thing is that these people are designing ever more complex and 
higher buildings. One day a lot of people are going to get killed.
