Alan,
       That would have been my guess, because they would have been such a
deep draw for spinning or hammering, but I suppose if one started with a
thick enough blank it could be done.  I was toying with ideas for making
the dome cover for my Tich and always end up back at casting, although it
would look much better spun from thin material.  One option that occurred
to me was to start with a brass tube and in a sense work "backward" howver
I'm not sure brass would be up to the broad flare that would need to be
drawn out of the lower edge.  I could see it splitting even with regular
annealing.
