[modeleng] Re: Turning cork

Alan,

We did this at school.... Many years ago.

You got to get the cork dry and cold to start, high speed in the lathe and
the tool??? Coarse sandpaper/ emery until you get close to the size you
want. Cork can then be shaped, finished to a fine finish using finer grade
papers. I have done this for presentation corks aniversary bottles etc.

Dave.

Subject: [modeleng] Turning cork

Has anyone any experience of turning cork.

Yesterday I needed to turn a small round "bung".
None of my efforts produced a decent finish, and
eventually I carved / hacked it out with a craft knife.

However, I am sure that it can be turned; after all, corks for bottles must
be made in some way.

So, how?
