Last night at Lackham again!
Stumpy
Yup, it was my fault, just being a prat (as usual). If I started it from
the DCT, everything was fine. The new drive control works well
(mechanically), but it's going to take some getting used to from a Human
Factors/Ergonomics point of view! I have an idea to automatically stop the
gearbox in neutral and only am allowed to proceed to either Forward or
Reverse by pressing a button (a bit like the "park" function on windscreen
wipers. That will stop the "yo-yoing" that I am currently managing when I
over compensate!
Topsy
Yup, fuel starvation. A minor mod to the fuel tap and it ran well all
night. It doesn't have the guts to charge the battery whilst power is being
drawn. It puts the petrol engine into a very slow "chug" from which it
won't recover and after a while there is smoke coming out from other places
than the exhaust! The solution is either to charge only when idle or to
look and see how practical it is to fit another (larger) petrol engine. I'm
investigating both, but will probably go for the former.
Topsy however is certainly a most "exciting" drive. I shall look forward to
having her pull a heavily laden train. I don't honestly think there will be
many problems!
Cheers
Peter
