As I said Unk, HORSES FOR COURSES. Try replacing a metrical bolt on a job
that comes in for repair with one of your imperial ones & you will see what
I mean. An example - a year or so back I had the distributor off an old
engine come in for cobbling - now that thing had 2 (or maybe 3) studs in it
that were 3/32" Whitworth & no matter how I tried to wriggle 'round it
that's wot they had to be.

In a lot of cases metric threads are a nice compromise between Whit & BSF
(or UNC/UNF if you prefer)
