For those in the UK, UKTV History channel has been running a series under 
the above title.
It covers WW2 from the perspective of civilian workers who performed 
essential work.

Episode 5 is about the railways, and contains some superb footage of locos, 
rolling stock, etc during WW2.

No doubt it will be repeated, so is worth watching out for.
(It might even be available via the Internet.)
