I have always bought my stainless balls from Cole's out in TEXAS and never
had one to show signs of rusting yet. Howsomever, I have heard that some
stainless material will rust if kept in contact with gravel and moisture so
I suppose some balls will also rust. Too small for our work are the little
balls found in hand spray bottles. Since the makers of the spray bottles do
not know what chemical may be used in the sprayers, they generally use
stainless balls as well as stainless springs over here in 'Murrica. The
little balls might work as clack valves in the smaller gauge locomotives
using TEL's idea of a "volcano" seat. I am too lazy to try it since I would
have to make a "D" drill and am allergic to work..
