[modeleng] Re: TIG welded copper boilers

Rich,

I gave it on the 24th :-

"Several years ago a TIG welded copper boiler turned up at the Urmston club.
It had been made by one of the leading boiler makers in the U.K. who was
producing all their boilers by this technique - can't remember their name at
the moment. The club boiler inspector did some tests on the boiler and on a
sample piece of weld. The conclusion was that the weld was as strong as the
parent metal."

I should have made it clear that only the barrel longitudinal joint was TIG
welded and that the boiler was pased as O.K. for service. I have since
checked that it was indeed a Maxitrak boiler.

Regards,

Barrie
