Speaking as an enthusiastic hot air engine watcher and (on one occasion)
maker. I believe that the challenge to get the thing to work in the first place
tends to override any time consuming frills.
However not all of these models are so basic, for example the Bailey's Bee by
Bruce (Polly) Engineering is quite pretty and I have seen some kit examples
which seem to be aimed at the executive toy market rather than true model
engineering.
Just my couple of pence worth.
