Could it be that since the hot air engines work on smaller differentials in
temperature than steam engines, heat accumulation in extra metal required
for elaborate bases, etc. has an adverse impact on performance? Or could it
be that the steamers are mostly replicating in small scale designs of an
earlier era which were themselves elaborately styled while the hot air
engines don't have a large history of such designs to replicate? Charles
