Jesse I hope you have better luck with a leakproof whistle valve than I
have
had. In theory they should all work but none have.

Eric,

I would imagine the valve will leak a wee bit and due to the way I am having
to pipe the steam to the whistle, I have contemplated drilling a tiny hole
in the pipe just ahead of the whistle. That way the condensate should leak
out so the whistle doesn't slobber when first blown. Later, when it is
permanently installed lengthways under the Shay boiler the whistle will be
self clearing (I hope). Anyway, the thing sounds really good. I got the
chime dimensions from a friend up in Wisconsin who used to work on the New
Haven RR.
