[modeleng] Re: Steaming Granny

Don't think he could do it now but 5 years ago, halfway through my Fathers
75th year, he fired a return trip on the SVR. The persons driving were, Kev
Cronin northbound and myself southbound. Neither of us are known as soft
handed drivers and the Black Five..(Haven't we come across this before?),
sounded great. As we departed Bewdley, my dad said, "Go on then, do your
worst", having put rather a big fire in. As we got towards the advanced
starter, I wound it back a bit of the cut off. "What you doin you silly
berk, I put it in there for you to throw out" was the shout from the
firemans side so it went back down the rack! We had a great day but I had
to miss the last trip up the bank due to work. Kevs comment to my dad was
"go on Jack, do your worst" as they came of the 5mph slack. Evidently, the
grin on my dads face was like a Cheshier cat when they topped eardington
Bank, not alowed to say anything about speed though, after all, what could
they do to the driver, suspend him..... It was his final turn in charge of a
full size loco. OK I'm rambling but it was a great day out.

Dave.
