[modeleng] Spanner Theory

Hi All,
About a week ago one of our illustrious group offered an explanation as to  
why a spanner is called so.
 
I thought I would pass it on to my club members via the club  magazine.
 
Unfortunately I have deleted it!
 
So, would the said member please resend it, (direct to me if you like), and  
may I ask his permission to include it in the club mag?
 
I will add the bit about it may not be true but it is a good theory!
