      Thanks for taking the time and trouble to report back at length.  So
often suggestions and advice goes off into the ozone ne'er to be heard from
again and although I can't recall whose advice was offered, some of us who
occasionally make suggestions, even though we don't do it (or shouldn't)
unless we are personally sure of our advice, do like to know that those on
the other end could and did benefit from the advice.
