I have had bottles of oxygen or acetylene disappear from the back shop where 
I keep my lawn mowers etc as well as the "Newbie" locomotive on its stand. 
I can always locate the missing bottles by going to our son's shop about 1/4 
mile from here.  He seems to have discovered that the bottles are "free" to 
him through some magical process similar to the one involving our laundry 
chute to the basement.  In the case of the laundry chute,  I can toss down 
my dirty sox etc and they will magically reappear a day later in my chest of 
drawers or at the very least, in a laundry basket on our bed.

 Oh I don't know!     I 'lost' a complete heavy dividing head in my 
workshop,
 and only found it yesterday in a forgotten cupboard.

 I also 'lost' my electronic calculator and after a few minute's search,
 found it right under my nose.    Something to do with old age, I think!
