[modeleng] Re: Simple Question

Barrie,

The proper answer to your problem is to use the adjustable wrenches
"spanners" as fishing line sinkers and purchase a proper set of box end and
open end spanners. Adjustable wrenches are probably OK if you cannot afford
but one wrench, but I haven't found much use for them other than rounding
over bolt heads. They really don't even make very good fishing line
sinkers, but are better at that than for use on bolts.

In answer to your question about the spanner changing its opening with use,
you are probably touching the adjusting screw.

I do have a 10 inch adjustable spanner that hangs behind my lathe. I use it
to fit onto a chuck jaw for loosening or tightening the chuck onto my lathe
spindle rather than using the chuck key to get the necessary torque. I could
make three different forged spanners to fit the chuck jaws, but the fishing
line sinker works well enough and I only need one.
