Steve,
My problem is not with flux, it's finding a solder to match color. The article
doesn't mention metal color. Flux can have an effect upon color in that a
chemical reaction is taking place between the flux and the metal and at the
edge
of the flux, where the metal surface changes from having been exposed to a
chemical reaction to not having been exposed to a chemical reaction, a visible
change in color may indeed occur but this is superficial and can usually be
scoured off with abrasive cloth. Most of the silver solders we use for boiler
building and misc assembly have a faint but distinct yellowish caste which will
stand out aginst SS like a badly beaten thumb, which is what I want to avoid.
Reagrds,
Harry
