[modeleng] Re: Shepperton Studios Modelmakers

A pal of mine (he is also a member here) is an occasional film extra, and
last year I took him to Shepperton studios, where he was having a costume
fit for the latest Peter O'Toole film.
I managed to get a stroll round, accompanied as everyone has to be, and saw
the "Thomas" studio.
Shame there was nothing happening there that day.
I did see the model makers there, and what they do is amazing.
One was carving beautiful "roman" columns, at a speed and with an accuracy
that was surprising.

As for the Thomas films, I still have the books from my childhood, and,
should I want to, would prefer to read them than watch the films.

I would like to take this opportunity to compliment
the entire staff at Shepperton Studions that produce
"Thomas the Tank Engine" series, especially the model
makers. Their attention to detail is matchless, not
only the models themselves, but also the backgrounds
and scenery. If any of them are members of this list,
please pass on my compliments to your co-workers.

Al Messer, a 68 yar old "boy".
