I have a pre-WW2 hand operated shaper made by Adept.
Being hand operated, it sure teaches you the value of having sharp tools!!
With care you can get a superb finish: the auto feed can be disengaged too.
I have used it many times to machine port faces, etc. and no further work
was necessary.
