[modeleng] Re: Scroll saws

An autotransformer or "Variac" as they are frequently called in North
America will only control the speed of universal (series wound AC/DC motors
with brushes). They don't work with AC only motors so be sure that your saw
has the right type of motor. Autotransformers are often available from
used/surplus sources for far less than the price that you mentioned. Try an
eBay search for "variac" or "powerstat" which are both trade names for the
generic product.
