Eric,
As others have said, screwcutting is not difficult.
Just requires a little practice.

Apart from being ideal for the larger threads, those you dont have dies for, 
and "odd" threads (square, buttress, multi-start, etc) it is FAR more 
accurate.

I often start the smaller coarse threads, say 1/4" Whit, by screwcutting, 
even though I only cut part way, and then finish off with a die. Far easier, 
and I know it will be square to the job.
