And horologists silver plate brass clock dials using a displacement
reaction. The silver plate sticks really well and can last years.

I have a formula in an old gunsmith's manual that tells how to make a silver 
plating powder that is merely rubbed on brass or copper.  No tank, no 
nothing except a damp cotton cloth to smear the powder with.  Works well as 
I remember it, but the coating is very thin though I suppose one could apply 
extra coats to build it up.
