[modeleng] SVR

Yesterday I spent a most enjoyable day on the Severn Valley Railway.

The occasion was mainly due to the visit here of a US model engineers, Bill 
Shields, who many of you will know.
He asked me for some suggestions of places to visit, and very kindly,  Ian 
Bramble and Dave Beaman arranged a tour of the SVR loco shops etc.

The day started for me with a 4 hour drive in torrential rain, which didnt 
bode well for the remainder of the day.
We, Bill and I, met at 10 o'clock, and soon after that met Ian and Dave.
I must say that they had organised a superb tour round, and everyone was 
most friendly and helpful.

We started in the loco shops, machine shop, boiler shop, pattern making: in 
fact, all the most interesting areas.
The machine shop has some superb machinery, and tools. In fact, I was quite 
envious, and could thoroughly enjoy "playing" there!

By the time we emerged into fresh air, the rain had fortunately stopped.
There then followed a trip along the line, with Bill on the footplate of a 
Manor.
From his smile at the other end, he certainly enjoyed it.
I rode footplate on the return trip, and then it was time to go.
(A 4 hour return drive, and, yes, it rained most of the way.)

It was nice to meet Ian and Dave, and I would like to thank them publicly 
for the effort they put in arranging everything.

Lots of photos were taken, and I will put the more interesting ones on my 
website shortly.
