Hi,
Tubes from the drain cocks is about the most reliable way of setting it up
Stephensons gear. There should just be the first whisp as the piston goes
past TDC or BDC.
The other trick is to drill holes in the excentrics so that you can get at
the grub screws without taking the straps off. You can then loosen of the
excentrics using an Allen key and move then around to get the best timing.
