I've never been able to do anything when wearing gloves. But my most recent
loco has some controls that get so hot they blister my fingers. A rag
provided a temporary solution until I splashed out and bought a pair of RAF
pilots gloves. They appear to be made of a very fine and supple leather
which is just thick enough to provide good heat insulation but not too thick
that "feel" is lost.
Being right handed I didn't use the left hand one which remained in my
overall pocket until a left handed friend, whom I owed a favour, complained
of hot controls on his engine. He scoffed at my offer of a pristine white
glove but was convinced after a short trial. He still reckons that piece of
carbon filled ptfe he gave me cost more that the glove though!
Cheers,
Barrie
