    I agree with Jesse on this, with one exception, the use of cheap brazed
barbide bits for peeling the crust off'n iron castings.  (Some of the
castings I've had lately have been kind of rough on those as well.)  One
doesn't need a ton of $$$ in quick-change insert tooling and a load of
collets to get started, but a few people would have us believe that.  It's
also a myth that all manner of fancy tooling makes you a better machinist.
A mentor of mine (P. Brien) built a couple of locomotives with no more
basic tooling than a 4-jaw chuck and handfull of 1/4" sq HSS bits in a
lantern toolpost and I kind of stick with those basics also.  But each of
us will, or has, discovered what we think makes our work go better and
we'll stick to that no matter what anyone else says.
