Hi JEM and Ron,
Occasionally the #2 morse taper in my lathe tailstock gets something with a
mating taper stuck in it. The taper is blind and does not have a slot. I
have had some luck with gently tapping on the side of the stuck item for a
few minutes up to an hour with a small copper hammer. The many small blows
will eventually dislodge the stuck item without any damage. I think it's the
vibrations that do it. It seems a better approach than escalating heavy
force blunt trauma, which is tempting but usually results in grief of some
sort. The tap tap tap takes patience though.
As Ron said a smear of WD40 on everything is beneficial.
Cheers Jeff Dayman Waterloo Ontario (making conrods for the steam roller
today)
