That's curious, referring to other models of US prototypes:
I've heard criticism of LBSC's Virginia (valve gear and boiler both try to 
occupy the same space if you use the original dimensions).

Also of Martin Evan's Columbia (drawings are just that, drawings, rather 
than dimensioned plans in a number of respects, but in other places where 
things get complex, the drawings aren't clear).

Possibly it's a hint that the designers should stick to what they know.

I know that LBSC did produce a number of well liked American designs, but 
wasn't that with the help of some of his colleagues over in the US when he 
was over there for a couple of years?
