I don't believe it has been run much Jesse. The boiler certificate was dated
July 1996 and was never renewed. The chap who built it sold it to a dealer
and it hung around his stockroom for a bit. A purchaser had it and ran it to
about 99 in his garden when it was sold back to the dealer. I bought it 4-5
years ago and never ran it for reasons explained in tedious detail in the
ebay listing. There is not a great deal of wear that I can see on it. it
doesn't look pretty but it seems sound where it counts mechanically and I've
a new boiler if the old is no good.
It is called a No 2 Railmotor as it is a design by Don Young of which the No
1 is a copy of a Taff Valley Railway railmotor (hence the Taff Valley
Railway transfer under the horrid paint). As original run the loco extended
back into a coach with a bogie at the other end. Don didn't describe that as
he intended the loco to be easily transported. He carried his own around in
a bag. He is dead now!
The No 2 version is a simpler version of the No 1.
As a breed they are quite nice locos to drive but you have to have your wits
about you as the grate is small.
If anyone is misguided enough to want to make me an offer for it off ebay
with or without the new Alf Thorne boiler wesll you know where to find me.
