Peter,
Think "Silver Solder" instead of brazing. Better yet use a small piece of
tungsten carbide and not worry about it not being hard enough to do the job.
I have made these down to a 5/32" shank with the shank being a piece of
Allen® wrench material. I'll send you a photo of one with an Allen wrench
shank that I made for cutting grooves inside 1/4" bores.

I need to cut some internal threads. Too big a diameter for a tap, of
course. Now the textbooks show nice tools with a cutting tip at right
angles to the shank, which I naturally don't have. The question is this:
Can I take the odd bits of HSS steel in stock from broken taps, end mills
etc, braze onto mild steel shank, and grind up, without the HSS losing its
qualities?
Admittedly, there's only 2 threads to cut, in brass, so the tool doesn't
need to be that great in terms of wearing qualities. But have any of you
experience in brazing HSS?
