A few years back, I had a very good friend who wanted to build a model steam
engine with fly ball governor. We priced the Stuart #9 that I had bought as
castings in the 1970s for around 70 dollars and found the new price was over
600 dollars.!!! Feeling sorry for my friend, I sat down and designed a mill
engine from a photograph in Audel's Engineers guide 1921. I then built the
model and gave a set of drawings to my friend. He had very few machine tools
at his home In Jackson, TN 65 miles away, so he would drive up here once or
twice a week and I would let him use my little shop as well as coach him.
He kept going to the loo in my basement (no not on the floor, there is a toilet
in the basement.) and made some remark about having "to go all the time". I
asked him if he had had his prostate checked lately and discovered he had never
had it done. At my urging, he went to his urologist and found that he had
prostate cancer which had already spread all over his body. He finished the
engine and it ran very well which made him happy, but unfortunately, he died
only a few months later. If you are having trouble with urinary frequency, I
suggest that you have a check up done before you wind up like my friend. I was
pall bearer at his funeral, but I can't come to Old Blighty to attend any of
you blokes funerals.
