According to British Steam Locomotive Builders by James W. Lowe:
In 1925 the Yorkshire Engine Company aquired the sole rights of the Poultney
patent. The only locomotive built under this patent by the firm was a
conversion of the Ravenglass and Eskdale Railway's RIVER ESK to a 2-8-2 +
0-8-0.
The eight coupled unit was under the tender portion.

Subject: [modeleng] Poultney Locomotive
Displacement activity time. I've a load of examination papers to mark,
guttering to repair and some fancy rats to clean out. So I'm reading a book
called "Engines" by Prof E N Da Candrade. It is dated 1945 and is based on
some Royal Institution Christmas Lectures. I think it is actually rather
earlier there is no reference to gas turbines and the epitome of LMS
lococomotives is said to be the Royal Scots. So I guess 1930s.
Anyway there is a reference to and a plate showing a "Poulteny" locomotive
made by the Yorkshire Engine Co. The plate shows a biggish 2-8-2 + 0-8-0
numbered 730 & reminding me somewhat of Fowler Midland locos.
If any one could tell me more I'd be glad to hear of it.
