The 6" or 150mm jobbies are often on sale very reasonable.  The longer ones 
seem less advantageously priced.  In the states, Harbor Freight periodically 
offers 12"/300mm calipers in the $30 to $40 range.

I've not bought from him, so this is an FYI posting.  Don't know about
