[modeleng] Re: Oil

Bede,

What are you using for piston packing, PTFE, rings or graphite yarn. If you
are using PTFE don't worry too much about the lubrication.

Also most miniature locos are over oiled anyway, all you need is to find a
slight smear in the top of the chimney at the end of a decent running
session.

The lubricator on my Gresley is one inch square, the pistons are fitted with
cast iron rings, the cylinders are cast iron ~~~ it takes about two hours to
empty the lubricator and it leaves me with the smear in the top of the
chimney as described.

Bede,

You have cited the only two methods that I use.

You can usually take it off at the cylinder end and move the ratchet
round by hand and see a small amount come out to give you some confidence.

Don't forget, if the level goes up, you need to sort out the check valve :-)

Cheers
