[modeleng] Re: Off Topic-Parcel scam

Gentlemen
I suggest you all take a look at the ICSTIS website

http://www.icstis.org.uk/communications_providers/ncd/DisplayServiceDetails.asp

This scam was stopped by ICSTIS in December 2005. They barred access to the
number and later fined the company responsible £10000. The call charge was
£1.50/min not £15 - £1.50/min is the max for a Premium Rate Service in the UK.
They have been barred from PRS operation until March 2007 so watch your letter
boxes after that - as in my experience PRS fraudsters always try again!!
Seriously - if you come across any iffy looking PRS number report it to ICSTIS
- that's waht they exist for!

I dont usually post "off topic" matter, but at this time of year, this may
catch one of the list members and needs wider publicity.

A card is posted through your letter box stating that a parcel was delivered
but you were out. It has the general appearance of the GPO card, but is from
a company named PDS (Parcel Delivery Service).
It asks that you call the number on the card (usually 0906 6611911) BUT, if
you do, as soon as you connect to the recorded message, you will have
incurred a charge of £15 on your phone bill, and more if you bother to
listen to the whole recording.

The scam originates in Belize, to where the calls are routed.

Beware!!

Alan
