Hi there Alan,
I think the process is called sintering - I see as ever Wikipedia has a
page on it.
I might be completely wrong, but in the back of my mind I seem to recall
that some freewheel units of push bike rear wheels are made in this way -
don't know where an earth I am recalling that from though.
